Scholarship Program
Knights of Columbus Fr. James J. McCafferty Council 11013 of Yardley, PA and St. Ignatius Parish, in association with the families of deceased Council Brothers, have established a Scholarship Program aimed at helping students and their families meet the costs of secondary and post-secondary education. We are proud and grateful to be associated with these awards and encourage all who are eligible to apply for consideration. Applications are now being taken for Knights of Columbus William C. Gibney Memorial Scholarship for High School Education. The application deadline for this award is April 13, 2025.

William C. Gibney Memorial Scholarship
for High School Education
The Fr. James J. McCafferty Council 11013 of Yardley, PA and St. Ignatius Parish are pleased to offer the William C. Gibney Memorial Scholarship for students to assist with the cost of high school tuition. Two awards of $1,000 each will be given in the name of the late William C. Gibney, who was a member of the Fr. James J. McCafferty Council No. 11013 and a 4th degree Knight. He was a founding “Charter Member” and an Officer of the Council. William was a man of many deep convictions and exemplified a life of commitment to the Knights of Columbus’ ideals of charity, faith, and service to others. He was a World War II U.S. Merchant Marine Officer, crossing the Atlantic several times during war times. He raised ten children as a member of St. Ignatius Parish. This scholarship has been established to honor and continue his legacy.
Application Requirements:
To qualify for William C. Gibney Scholarship, applicants must be a registered full-time student at a tuition-based high school or vocational school in the fall of 2025. Applications must be received by April 13, 2025.Prior recipients of a Knights of Columbus Council 11013 Scholarship are not eligible. Contact Information:• Applicant Name• Address• Phone Number• Email Address Evidence of acceptance or registration at a tuition-based high school or vocational/technical school. Extracurricular Involvement and Activities:Provide a list of activities in which you are involved through your school, church, and/or community. List clubs, sports, honor societies, faith ministries, scouts, jobs, or family responsibilities. Indicate for each of these activities any leadership roles you have had over the past two years. Service Essay (maximum of two doubled spaced pages):Describe your involvement in service to your family (include major responsibilities at home and/or requirements to have an outside job to help family financials), community, school, and/or church. Please indicate if this service involvement goes beyond what is required by your school. Describe why you chose to become involved in this particular service activity, why you feel it is important for you to be involved in this service, and how this has helped you grow as a person.
Two Letters of Recommendation:Letters of recommendation should describe why the student is an excellent candidate for the William C. Gibney Scholarship based on their service to family (include major responsibilities at home and/or requirements to have an outside job to help family financials), school, church, and/or community. Please highlight examples of exemplary participation and/or leadership.
